When news broke that Seth Rogen (Superbad, the Green Hornet) and Evan Goldberg (Knocked Up, This Is The End) were teaming up once again but to produce the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s successful series “Preacher,” it became quite a buzz. Just announced as being cast as Cassidy is Joseph Gilgun, an English actor who has 21 years’ experience in British TV and films.  With Ruth Negga (World War Z, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) lined up to play Tulip and with it looking like Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, Need for Speed) filling the title role (though unconfirmed), it looks like the main cast is lined up. Another character certain to be in the film is Eugene Root AKA Arseface, who will be portrayed by Ian Colletti (Fox comedy series Rake).

The show, which was picked up by the AMC network, is the story of a preacher (Jesse Custer) who became possessed by Genesis, an unnatural result of an angel and a demon having “relations.”  When Genesis was born, God left heaven and was living somewhere on earth. Jesse, along with his old girlfriend (Tulip) and a drunken Irish vampire, he sets across the country in order to attempt to find God and confront him on why he abandoned heaven and why life was miserable on earth.

The Preacher comic book series ran for 75 entire issues from 1995 – 2000 and was put out by Vertigo Comics, which is owned by DC Comics.

Preacher will debut on the AMC network sometime in mid-to-late 2015, as confirmed by Seth Rogen stating that the entire season is scripted and the pilot has been ordered. Given the success of series like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, it is almost certain you can expect some cursing and graphic content.
