Colonel Sanders and KFC Get a New Face! Norm Macdonald!

KFC1The symbol of KFC has always been Colonel Sanders, who we have all seen portrayed as an older white-haired Southern Gentlemen. His portrait was in every store and his likeness graced every bucket. He WAS Fried Chicken.

When KFC decided to revive him I didn’t think anything of it, until we saw the first commercial. Maybe it’s a generational thing but after talking to a few friends we decided that the Colonel was now just weird…in the creepy sort of way. He still looked very similar, but he wasn’t a Southern Gentleman anymore, he was now one of those guys you kept your eye on at the bus stop; and if you only had a choice between sitting next to a Hells Angel or Colonel Sanders, you’d pick the biker.KFC2It seems that once again the Colonel is changing. The previous ‘creepy’ Colonel was portrayed by SNL Alum Darrell Hammond and now they hiring a second SNL actor, Norm Macdonald. (I wonder if they hired him just so they could thumb their noses at their competitor and his namesake?)

When asked why KFC hired another Colonel, a reporter was told that “Colonel Sanders was too big a personality to be portrayed by just one person,” so I guess this means that there

will now be two creepy looking dudes in white suits to avoid on the bus?

Kevin Hochman, KFC’s chief marketing officer, stated in a press release: “Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world’s best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel.”

The new commercials will show the new Colonel Sanders hanging out in a stretch while limo, in his office, and with a “children’s mandolin band.”

This is all part of their new and wild makeover, which if nothing else, is getting them talked about, so on that end it is obviously successful.

Other unusual components of the KFC makeover include an old-style game in which players must make the Colonel ditch school, catch babies, face punch a client, have a shootout at a gas station, and then build a chicken empire, and a Colonel Sanders GPS Voice app which you can listen to here. They also released a Colonel Sanders comic at SDCC.

KFCYou can play the game below, however it doesn’t seem to work on FireFox
