Guardians of the Galaxy has Cast their Newest Member!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is definitely making the news these days with their casting. Earlier we commented on the ruckus over the casting call for extras and now we have information on a new character. A character that we are told is a ‘key role’ in the new film.

Actress Pom Klementieff , has signed on as Mantis; a Vietnamese-German martial arts expert with ties to the Kree.

Pom is a French-Canadian actress previously known for her roles in Oldboy, Radiostars and Porn in the Hood. She was born in Quebec City in Quebec Canada and later moved to Japan and the Ivory Coast before her family settled in France where she was raised by an aunt and uncle. Her first listed movie is Apres Lui in 2007

Mantis first made an appearance in 1973 in Avengers #112, since then she has had a background that is a little muddied so you know that James Gunn is sure to have a field day recreating her. Mantis first appearance in association with the Guardians was in 2007 and since then she has been on several adventures.

In the comics Mantis uncovered a plot by the Elders of the Universe to acquire the six Infinity Gems and destroy Galactus. She feared it would destroy the Universe and sought the help of the Silver Surfer.

We all know that the Guardians had one of the Infinity Gems which they turned over to Nova Corps, so the inclusion of Mantis as a key character makes sense at this point. We can only assume she is going to protect a gem, maybe even the one Nova Corp has. Does this mean they plan to finally bring in Adam Warlock as well?
