Live Long and ….. Circulate?

May he Live Long and Prosper

spocked fiverSince the death of Leonard Nimoy, many Canadians have been paying tribute to him in a way that is truly gaining circulation.

The five dollar bills featuring the seventh Prime Minister, Sir Wilfred Laurier, are being ‘Spocked’. Through the miracle of ink pens, the former Prime Minister has gotten a makeover and now sports the familiar Vulcan haircut, ears and eyebrows with many of them declaring “Live Long and Prosper.”

In Canada it is not illegal to deface the bills, but the Bank of Canada does frown on it and politely asks that people please not do it.

“… there are important reasons why it should not be done. Writing on a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction. Furthermore, the Bank of Canada feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.”
I think it is cool and I’m wondering if anyone from my home country wants to send me one of these ‘Spocked’ bills.
