New “Lego Worlds” Game Gearing up to Replace Minecraft!

lego worlds 2There are two things in this world that my son is obsessed, with Legos and Minecraft. He could have made worse choices, so I am not complaining. Both Lego and Minecraft can be fantastic toys and tools for children. They foster creativity and imagination. They also both teach the basics of physics and construction.

Thus far I have managed to avoid the Minecraft-themed Legos by pointing out how easy it would be for him to create his own Minecraft with his existing Legos (then I steer him towards my personal favorites the SuperHero Legos.)lego worlds 3

Well now we don’t just have Minecraft-themed Legos, we also have an online Lego world that is similar to Minecraft. To be honest, in this age of commercialism, I am surprised that it has taken someone this long to mimic Minecraft.

The new game called Lego Worlds is available through Steam as an ‘early access’ paid beta worlds 4

The new Lego Worlds has taken a page straight from Minecraft and features generated worlds which a player can modify to their heart’s content. The only real difference is that instead of blocks you are using bricks. The one advantage it has is that you have access to a wide range of pre-created vehicles and buildings which are all based off Lego playsets.

The Beta version of Lego Worlds, currently available on STEAM for $17, is only for Windows machines. A full launch is slated for early next year. Planned enhancements for the full release include a lot of social features such as online multiplayer and the ability to share in-game worlds 5

Now the question is…will Minecraft continue to hold it’s place or will Lego replace it?
