PopcultHQ Explores Upcoming Movie Sequels – Part 4

sequels part 4We continue to trudge through our long list of upcoming sequels (excluding the ones for this year, the DCU and MCU movies.) Click here to start at the beginning with Part 1

Ice Age 5

The fifth film is in this cartoon series will return July 15, 2016. The main voice talents are returning as are directors Mike Thurmeier and Galen T. Chu. No plot is available yet, but if it is due in July you can bet that the script is written and in animators hands.

Immortals 2

In March we were told by Relativity Media that they had a script almost ready and that Henry Cavill was the star. We were also informed that they wanted to film it in India and use an Indian actor as one of the main roles. Other than that we don’t know much, except that Cavill is busy with Superman for the next few years.

The Incredibles 2

This is finally happening and it looks like director Brad Bird is working on a script for it. We have no release date, but I’m thinking 2017 at the earliest.

Indiana Jones 5

It looks like there are plans for both a 5 and 6 but everything around them is a rumor. It is rumored that Harrison Ford has a clause for two more movies (after Star Wars) and rumors keep popping up about having Chris Pratt take over the main role. Neither star has denied involvement with theses sequels, but neither have confirmed the rumors either.indiana jones

The third movie in The Da Vinci Code franchise and a direct sequel to Angels & Demons. Once again Tom Hanks is back as Robert Langdon and Ron Howard is directing. Inferno is set for release on October 14th, 2016.

Iron Sky: The Coming Race

Thanks to a successful Crowdfunding campaign this sequel is well on its way to becoming reality. Not only are the directors returning but we also get Julia Dietze, and Udo Kier.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

Tom Cruise returns as the title character, but Edward Zwick will now sit in the directors chair. We have a script by Marshall Herskovitz in which Jack Reacher returns to the headquarters of his old unit, only to find out he’s now accused of a 16-year-old homicide. There is no release date.

Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon

Set to be released April 30, 2016 this film stars Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, and Anna Colwell. Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn were said to be working on the script. The April 2016 release date might not be all that accurate as Johnson seems to have a lot going on right now. There are also plans for a fourth movie, but nothing is known about it yet.Journey

Jurassic World 2

We know that before filming even started Chris Pratt was signed up for more Jurassic movies. It almost seems to be a standard clause that they reserve for their star actors,  just in case. If Jurassic World failed then we wouldn’t even be talking about a sequel, however it was a blockbuster which means that there will definitely be a second Jurassic World. It’s just too soon have any actual information on it.

The Karate Kid 2

This movie has been hanging out there since the remake that starred Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. There is no plot at this point, however it seems that the script has been rewritten numerous times. Personally, I think Jaden will be too old to be the Karate Kid by the time this moves forward.

Kingsman 2

Director Matthew Vaughn is currently writing the sequel. There is no other updates at this point.

Kung Fu Panda 3

It has taken five years, but the third film in the Panda series is on its way. Jennifer Yuh is once again directing and Jack Black returns as Po. Other returning voices include Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan. We hope to see this in theaters January 29th 2016.kung fu panda

Last Witch Hunter 2

Thanks to Vin Diesel, we know that Lionsgate is developing a sequel even before the first one hits the theaters. Of course the status of the sequel will depend entirely on how well the original performs when it hits theaters in October.

The Legend Of Conan

Apparently Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to pick up the character from where he left him (and ignore the newer reboot) over three decade ago. According to Arnold he likes “..the idea of Conan having been king for a long time, then just threw it all away and went into retirement and went off into the mountains. That whole idea always appealed to me. Then of course he gets asked back because of some hideous and unbelievable things that are happening to the kingdom. So that’s when the battle begins again.” At least he’s acknowledging age, so we will see if this actually gets off the ground.

Keep watching for Part 5 of our Upcoming Movie Sequel Series.
