PopcultHQ Explores Upcoming Movie Sequels – Part 7

sequels part 7Once again we dive into the realm of sequels. Why not go back to the beginnings at Part 1.

Rounders 2

This is another film where it seems that the actor and the production company want a sequel, but it hasn’t happened yet. The last update on this was in December 2014, when Edward Norton confirmed he was interested in a sequel.

Rush Hour 4

In August 2014 Jackie Chan stated that he has no interest in a sequel unless someone brings him a script that he likes. According to TMZ Jackie said that there will be a Rush Hour 4, which would mean that someone created a script he thought was worth his time, unfortunately this is coming from TMZ, so I’d still leave it as a rumor and not get my hopes up.

Salt 2

In September of last year it was reported that this movie is still on, however it will be without Angelina Jolie. Sony claimed that they where still going ahead with it, but there hasn’t been any progress. I guess they are going to have to find someone else to play Salt or do a reboot.

Sherlock Holmes 3

Another one of those movies that everyone wants to do, but it has to sit and wait for other projects to be completed first. In 2014 Robert Downey Jr. told us that he knew a script was being worked on. In May RBJ posted the below photo and captioned it ‘Master of Disguise.’ Could this mean that they are filming Sherlock Holmes 3? If so then it is being kept under a tight lid.sherlock holmes

Shrek 5

According to DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg we will be seeing a fifth movie in the series. Mike Myers will be returning as Shrek in the upcoming Puss in Boots movie and then he will get his own movie shortly after that so don’t expect to see him hit theaters anytime before 2018.

Sin City 3

Shortly after the release of Sin City: A Dame To Kill, Robert Rodriguez and Frink Miller told us that they were already looking at a third installment. Unfortunately, the cold reception that #2 got might have put a crimp on plans for #3 as nothing has been seen on it for a while.

Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 3

According to America Ferrera the third film in the series is being worked on. According to America the movie will be based on the fifth book in author Ann Brashares’ series.

Smurfs 3 – Get Smurfy

Technically this should be under ‘G,’but I was halfway through this article series when the latest announcements were made. We’ve known for a while now that the new Smurf movie was due out in 2017, we now have a date of March 31st. They also gave us the title of Get Smurfy and a plot line that tells us Smurfette and her brothers navigate the Enchanted Forest in search of a fabled Smurfs village before the evil Gargamel finds it. Casting includes pop star Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Rainn Wilson as Gargamel and Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf.smurfs

Spaceballs 2

The 88-year-old comic legend wants to make a sequel to this Star Wars Parody and has even given it the working title of Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money. He wants to get it rolling in between the newest Star Wars films. Somehow I don’t think he is going to get the original cast back together, so the only hope might be a reboot or an unrelated sequel.

Space Jam 2

In 2014 were told that Warner Bros were dusting this off this 1996 movie to create a sequel with LeBron James. Charlie Ebersol is on board to produce and Willie Ebersol to write the script. Not much more has surfaced in the last year.

Nicolas Wright and James A Woods are writing what is supposed to be the first in a new trilogy of Stargate movies. The new films are supposed to involve the original writer Dean Devlin and director Roland Emmerich. Whether this is a total reboot or picks up where one of the movies or the TV show leave off is unclear, what is clear is that this is still several years away.

Star Trek: Beyond

The name was just confirmed on June 30th in a tweet by director Justin Lin..If you didn’t already know that this was out there then you might as well move on because you aren’t a Star Trek fan. The third in the rebooted series is coming to theaters July 8, 2016, two months before the franchise’s 50th anniversary on September 8th so you can be sure that this will be the kick off to the celebration.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on December 18th, 2015

Star Wars: Episode VIIIX

Probably one I should have left on my “we all know about it list.” The first one comes out later this year.

Keep watching for Part 8 and 9
