Star Wars: The Force Awakens Is The Highest-Grossing Film Of All Time!

It only took 20 days.  That’s right, 20 days!  Star Wars: The Force Awakens surpassed Avatar as the highest-grossing film domestically.  Avatar had held the record with an outstanding $760.5 million set in 2010.  Tuesday, J.J. Abrams offering cleared $758.2 million.  It only took ticket sales from Wednesday morning for the sequel to overtake James Cameron’s fantasy epic.  This is all NOT accounting for inflation.  Just WOW!

Avatar, however, still reigns supreme with the worldwide box-office record of $2.78 billion.  Adding Star Wars‘ domestic and international ticket sales, The Force Awakens currently has a little over $1.54 billion.  Many do not feel this is a record that the Disney film can surpass.  Granted, the film has only been out for 20 days, and this coming Saturday, January 9, will see the official release in China, the second largest movie market in the world.  With many the film destined to see many more weeks in theaters, plus the possibility of a re-release later in the year (which the Star Wars franchise, as well as Avatar, have done in the past), it will definitely see Episode VII gain ground on the worldwide box office record.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, currently in theaters, stars Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) and Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma).  Returning cast members include Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), and Kenny Baker (R2-D2).

By the way, will we ever find out just what is up with C-3PO’s arm?SW3
